BOOK: BLANKETS by CRAIG THOMPSON (2003)
After seeing a panel at the American Library Association Annual conference this year with the author, Craig Thompson, I made a note of this book, graphic novel or however you want to refer to it. I’m glad I did.
This personal story illustrates Thompson’s life growing up in Wisconsin (it is based on personal experiences). The parallel stories of faith and relationships highlight many of Craig’s struggles while growing up in a very Christian town. Thompson’s beautiful descriptions of his feelings and the life around him tell a special story of his relationships with his family and his first love Raina.
Not only is the story a beautiful one in words, but the detailed illustrations bring Thompson’s tale to life. This wonderful read illuminates the trial of growing up and learning how to make life your own.
